ABOUT THE FILM

We started development on the film back in 2007. There has been tons of things to take care of. One of them was to build a 5 meter long and 2 meter high pirate ship! It took forever, but the result is amazing. There is a picture on the Images site. And then of course the puppets. Christophe build the captain himself together with our set builder Andrea. The Queen of the Dead Kingdom was done in the UK. We have moved into animation now and will be animating until early 2009. After that we start the long process of post-production with all the keying and the effects, the sound and the compositing. We plan to complete the film by mid 2009.

ABOUT STOP MOTION

For those of you who are not familiar with the technique of stop motion here’s a little runthrough: You build some puppets and place them in from of a camera. Then you take one picture. Then you move the puppet a tiny tiny bit, and then take another picture. For every 24 pictures you have one second of film. In this film we will be taking around 11,000 pictures! An average animator will be able to take 12 - 36 images pr. day depending on the difficulty of the scene. Are we nuts? Maybe, but the final look is awesome! Just take a look at Nightmare Before Christmas or Wallace and Gromit.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Christophe Peladan is a first-time director. He is French and he have lots of experience with animation. Among others he worked on the Swiss film Max & Co and then he have been involved in several other stop motion film.

ABOUT THE CREW

We have a great crew on the film. All of them working for practically nothing. Lots of different nationalities have been involved in the production, from among others Germany, Denmark, France, England and more. Thanks to everybody. Needless to say we appreciate all the hard work a lot!
